The leaves on my oleander trees have turned brown. Can I prune the branches back?

I have had these trees for 5 years and this has never happened. We had an usually cold winter. I live in the California desert. The trees are still alive but the leaves are brown. If I prune the branches back will new branches emerge with green leaves. I have never pruned them in the past.

Yes you can prune your Oleanders. Your plants probably got a little "frosted". Oleanders are VERY hardy plants.

I live in Northern California. I prune my Oleanders back every year to keep them from overtaking the area. Trust me -- They WILL grow back!! While Oleanders are very drought resistent, I would give them a deep watering after cutting them back just to spur on the new growth!

Good Luck!!
Reply:yes please wear gloves as they are highly poisinous do not let animals or children get a hold of any part of the tree throw away trimmings right after prunning....good luck they are beautiful trees....
Reply:Yes, but remember that they are poisonous so be careful breathing and handling the bushes...
