I have heard that oleander is poisonous, but how poisonous?

I mean, more specifically, would it just make you very sick, or is it so poisonous that it could kill a person or a pet?

It is so poisonous that just a few leaves eaten by a horse could kill it.

This is a very poisonous plant/tree for horses. Not sure if it has the same effect on dogs or other pets.

I only know of the horses, from a friends personal experience
Reply:It killed our cat.
Reply:Very poisonous. It depends on the dose and the person how sick you will get. It can be fatal in some cases.

Poisioning is rare though.

In you average garden there are several toxic plants. The human defence mechanisim knows which ones are not good. Our instincts tell us not to pick and chew these plants.
Reply:it would kill a person. We just had a controversy here in LA at Holy Cross hospital, they were out of the medicine and the guy died, a painful death.
Reply:It's very toxic to pets and people.
