ray was the guy that lived in the trailer with that woman who shot astrid
In the movie white oleander, what did astrid do with that guy ray when she visited him at work?
in the movie, they didn't really do anything. in the book, however, they got it on....
Reply:Basically she visits ray at work and they say he eats her out and then she lays down for father so she has sex with him and thats why she gets shot!! Report It
Reply:no idea, but wait there was sex between the guy and the girl
Reply:yeah she did and rays gf found out and started a fight with her. i love the movie!
Reply:My girlfriend read the book. She said that she had sex with the guy. Also in the book, he was a lot older and less attractive than in the movie. I think she would get off of school and go see him pretty often, actually.

How poisonous is an oleander?
Oleander which refers either Nerium Oleander (the common version) and Thevetia peruviana (yellow oleander) is very toxic to both humans and animals alike. It does not matter if the plant is dried, wilting, or fresh the results to human or animal will be the same. Even the sap of this plant can cause skin allergies- so if you are transplanting your oleander wear gloves! Also burning the plant can cause breathing problems. However, the plant is not all bad. There has been research done with oleander in the areas of cancer and congestive heart failure. It is believed that long term use of oleander can have postive effects on certain types of cancer. Due to the highly toxic nature of this plant research is slow and reliable research on humans has yet to be performed.
On a personal note, i have oleander in my yard and a while back i had a chicken who loved to peck at and eat the oleander leaves. I tried shooing the chicken away from the plant everytime i saw her near it because i was afraid she would kill herself. But she just kept eating the plant and it didn't seem to have any ill effect on her. Who knows, maybe oleander doesn't effect chickens as much as it does other animals.
The smartest thing is to resist temptation to take a bite of the plant and just enjoy it for its beauty.
How poisonous is an oleander?
I wonder how many kids or deranged people are now going to try to poison someone/something with it. Congratulations.
Reply:Every part of the shrub is toxic. Always wash your hands after handling them.
Reply:It's toxic levels are too high even if consumed in small parts it can result in death.
All parts of the plant that is the leaves are also toxic whether dried or fresh
The symptoms are gastric irritation, death (sudden maybe)

What is the white oleander flower and were can it be located??
Just curious - are you asking this question because of the book/ movie of the same name?
The Latin name is Nerium oleander, and it is a Mediterranean native. Since it is incredibly tough and grows without summer water, it is very common in many locations in California, even in the median strips and alongside the freeways and Interstate highways. It comes in colors other than white, too. All parts of the plant are extremely toxic. Animals have died from eating just one leaf, and I have heard that using a twig from the oleander to roast a marshmallow can cause the marshmallow to become a deadly toxin.
Oleander plants are available at home and garden stores (like Home Depot) and plant nurseries in areas where it is hardy. You could also find online nurseries that sell it.
Personally, although I live in an area where oleanders grow quite well, I would never plant them, because I wouldn't want to run the risk of my animals or visiting children being poisoned.
What is the white oleander flower and were can it be located??
I have been told Oleanders are poisenous, if you have young children or pets, plz consider another type of plant, consult the nursery to be sure. Oleander practially grew wild when I lived in California years ago
Reply:I've seen Oleanders in white, pink and a darker pink, which is probably called red. They are tall, full, and used alot in landscaping, especially between traffic lanes in states like California, Arizona, Texas and Nevada. I believe they are poisonous, but fine if no one eats them. They should be easy to find in most garden centers.
Reply:Oh my goodness, I am in south Texas and white oleanders are everywhere........at every nursery....email me if I can be of any help....
Reply:Galveston, Texas is known as the Oleander city.
Reply:A very common flower - The bushes usually line freeways and highways...More of a pest than a beauty
Oleander (Nerium oleander), is an evergreen shrub or small tree in the dogbane family Apocynaceae. It is the only species currently classified in the genus Nerium. Other names include Adelfa, Alheli Extranjero, Baladre, Espirradeira, Flor de Sao Jose, Laurel de jardin, Laurel rosa, Laurier rose, Flourier rose, Olean, Aiwa, Rosa Francesca, Rosa Laurel, and Rose-bay (Inchem 2005); in Chinese it is known as 夹竹桃 (jia zhu tao). The ancient city of Volubilis in North Africa took its name from the old Latin name for the flower.
Oleander shrub, MoroccoIt is native to a broad area from Morocco and Portugal eastward through the Mediterranean region and southern Asia to Yunnan in southern China (Flora Europaea; Flora of China; Huxley et al. 1992; www.inchem.org). It typically occurs around dry stream beds. It grows to 2-6 m tall, with spreading to erect branches. The leaves are in pairs or whorls of three, thick and leathery, dark green, narrow lanceolate, 5-21 cm long and 1-3.5 cm broad, and with an entire margin. The flowers grow in clusters at the end of each branch; they are white, pink or yellow, 2.5-5 cm diameter, with a deeply 5-lobed corolla with a fringe round the central corolla tube. They are often, but not always, sweetly scented. The fruit is a long narrow capsule 5-23 cm long, which splits open at maturity to release numerous downy seeds.
In the past, scented plants were sometimes treated as a distinct species N. odorum, but the character is not constant and it is no longer regarded as a separate taxon.

I have a pink oleander planted outside?
it is still putting out blooms but all these long things are growing out and i opened it and it's full of seeds, do I plant them now and if so should i plant outside or inside?
I have a pink oleander planted outside?
those will not grow just trim them back when they get too big
Reply:You should be able to sow them indoors; they need to be kept warm (70-75F). Germination takes 30-90 days, so be patient! You can also sow them outdoors in the spring. It's good to remember that ALL parts of the oleander plant are HIGHLY toxic, so keep seeds and plants away from children and pets.
Reply:MASTER GARDENER TO THE RESCUE
the first advise you got is closer to the truth. if you want another plant, buy one. growing from seed is almost impossible and even should you be lucky enough to get the seed to sprout, baby oleander from seed takes forever to get growing. if everything is perfect, 3 years from now you will have a 6 inch tall, single stemmed plant ready to put into the ground. 3 years... 6 inches. for $5.00 or less you can get a nice 1 to 2 foot tall, well rooted, multiple stemmed plant ready to go. 3 years from now it could reach 7 to 10 feet tall.
7 to 10 feet or 6 inches. which do you want in 3 years?

All people who read white olaender?
i recently bought the book white olaender and i'm not finished but i really like it so far but in chapters 7-9 i think theres a lot of talk about making love and whores and sex does that continue throughout the book because if it does then i'm not interested in finishing it because i really don't like that sorta thing
but i really really want to finish it because so far it's great other than thoose couple of chapters i just want to know if they continue talking about it because i'd really like to finish it because the plot line is just AMAZING
Anybody who read white oleander?
It's been a few years since I read it but I'm pretty sure it doesn't continue throughout the whole novel. It's really minimal. I remember this book leaving me with mixed feelings while I was reading it because some of the things talked about are a little taboo but when I was finished I was glad I read it. It is a great book and well written. Keep reading, I think you'll be fine...but I don't know how old you are. I was 22 when I read it.
It's a great book but a little edgy.
Reply:turns out pretty weird. I did like the book %26amp; think that is was worth the read. I really did not care for the ending, But some times dissapointment works. This is not a perfect world,
Reply:Well, i saw the movie, and the movie isnt based on sex. That was just one thing she went through.

Besides avocados and oleander, which 'foods/products' are toxic to birds?
For example, I drop a piece of toast and go scatter it to the birds in the garden. What if it's buttered or has peanut butter on it. Can this harm them? Do they glean, naturally, what is toxic to them?
Besides avocados and oleander, which 'foods/products' are toxic to birds?
Cleaning products are bad for birds, like Febreeze and Arm and Hammer.
I'll give you the website where you can find foods and products that are bad for birds.
Reply:It is my understanding that native birds know what is harmful and what is not-- recently, I learned that some foods they eat which was bad for a certain group of parrots that they are able to eat the clay because they have such a fast digestive tract that it isn't in their bodies long enough for their bodies to absorb it.
They like peanut butter-- my children put peanut butter on pine cones and dipped it in birdseed and hung it outside and watched the birds come and eat it.
Keep feeding the birds-- chocolate is bad but who is going to share that w/ the birds!! right ?
Reply:Butter is too fatty for them but peanut butter in very small amounts is ok. Chocolate, alcohol, salty, fatty, and greasy foods should not be fed to birds.

Elly, and her oleander eating dog. What happened?
If Elly's dog ingested oleander than it is a safe bet the dog is dead. Oleander is extremely toxic. I am sorry to hear about this puppy.
Elly, and her oleander eating dog. What happened?
I dont know
Reply:If the dog ate oleander, it's going to die (if it's not dead already). The oleander contains the toxic glycoside oleandrin; one leaf can kill a full-grown human.

Yellow leaves on oleander in sc.?
plenty of water%26amp;fertilizer
Yellow leaves on oleander in sc.?
One of two things or both, over watering causing a depletion of iron in the soil. Oleanders like to dry out in between watering. There is a product called chelated iron. Allow your soil to dry, follow the directions on the package and cut back on the watering. letting the soil dry between. Once you have replaced the iron go back to your feeding routine which should be very two to three weeks. Good luck!

I tasted some oleander sap,?
Chances are you'll be OK, but if you feel any of the following symptoms, you'd better seek medical assistance:
Effects of poisoning
Oleandrin, one of the toxins present in OleanderReactions to this plant are as follows. Ingestion can cause both gastrointestinal and cardiac effects. The gastrointestinal effects can consist of nausea and vomiting, excess salivation, abdominal pain, diarrhea that may or may not contain blood, and especially in horses, colic (Inchem 2005). Cardiac reactions consist of irregular heart rate, sometimes characterized by a racing heart at first that then slows to below normal further along in the reaction
Reply:i don't think it would be lethal or would it be?

I ate much oleander sap. Am I ok?
It was 3 days ago and I'm still fine. And it was from stem. Isn't it poisonous? Does it have an incubation period?
I ate much oleander sap. Am I ok?
I doubt it was actually oleander... and why are you eating the stuff anyway? the toxins in oleander would have done the significant damage by now.
Poisoning and reactions to Oleander plants are evident quickly, requiring immediate medical care in suspected or known poisonings of both humans and animals (Goetz 1998)

I don't know where you are(US?) but it's kind of cold out in most places. That would be your biggest problem. If it's warm where you are , just water it a little and be patient. It will come to life. Those things are almost impossible to kill.

I need a website that will give me character descriptions, symbols, motifs, and chapter summaries. Ive been looking so hard to find some but I've had no luck =[ please help..and be serious..thank you
Novel WHITE OLEANDER?
Maybe you should try reading the book???? It's pretty good and you might enjoy it. Don't cheat and watch the movie; it's not true to the book.
Reply:There are no free book notes on this novel. The only way you can research it (for free) would be to pay a visit to your Public Library. I would call first to see if they have the novel by Janet Fitch and then bring a pad and pencil to look for all the items I want.

What makes oleander turn yellow?
It is probably a lack of iron. You should be able to find an iron supplement (like Ironite) at your local garden center.

Our white oleander tree isn't blooming tho it is very healthy and green. Any idea why?
sometimes with flowering shrubs it takes a full growing season to flower. it is getting acclimated to its new home so to speak. other issues may be in the soil;some minerals may be lacking or in excess. take a sample to your local extension they will be able to help a great deal. don't forget this is a toxic plant to animals. it is poisonous even if it is burned fumes and smoke. happy gardening
Our white oleander tree isn't blooming tho it is very healthy and green. Any idea why?
it can take 1-7 years for a tree to show sighns of stresstry some fertalizer in the spring and a light prune allways cut back to a bud when pruning and dont leave a nub pruning helps generate root grouth and branch grouth good luck
Reply:From National Gardening Assoc.:
"Care
Apply a layer of compost under the plant each spring, spreading it out to the dripline (the area under the outermost branches). Add a 2-inch layer of mulch to retain moisture and control weeds. Water plants during the summer if rainfall is less than 1 inch per week. Prune oleander after the main bloom period to encourage bushier growth and more flowers, and to reduce the size of the shrub. "
One of the problems with flowering shrubs is that if you add too much fertilizer, it will promote LOTS of green growth, but not flowering. So watch how you fertilize! This may be your problem if you added fertilizer when you planted it. Otherwise, it may simply need a little time to settle in. Patience!
BTW, you DO know this is a poisonous plant, right? Just checking! Good luck and happy blooming!

Is touching Oleander plants poisonous?
Simply touching them won't hurt you but if you get any sap on your hands make sure you wash it off. It's definetely a 'do not eat' sort of plant.
Will an Oleander plant survive outside during a St. Louis MO winter?
Don't you get snow there? Not only will it not survive cold, but since it is an evergreen bush and not very strong, the snow will crush it.
Will an Oleander plant survive outside during a St. Louis MO winter?
No, it's not a subzero plant at all. So if you must, plant in the warmest part of the yard (southern exposure??) and mulch like anything over winter. OR grow it in a big container and roll it a semi heated location for the winter...problem there is the roots are above ground tho in a pot.......it may still be too cold. It's a big gamble, don't base your landscape around it.
Reply:Answer No. Unless you cut the plant way back at the end of your growing season. cover the remainder of the plant in pine bark. wrap it with a gunney sack, Before you consider Oleander this plant is highly toxic to children pets and Domestic birds. Good luck.
Reply:My guess would be no. You might Google "oleander" and see what you get.

What is the relevance of White Oleander in the film White Oleander?
The white Oleander symbolizes beauty and fragility, like the white blossoms that it bears.
But it also shows that beauty can be deadly.
Just as those blossoms can kill so to did the main character's mother.
When most people look at a pretty oleander bush though, they see its beauty not the hidden ugliness of its poison.
What is the relevance of White Oleander in the film White Oleander?
the white oleander is symblolic of her mother, beatiful yet deadly. the mom also uses the flower to kill her boyfriend.
good book, the movie wasn't bad either.

Can oleander be grown indoors?
Next to a bright window? Any other suggestions?
Can oleander be grown indoors?
I've never heard of anyone growing an oleander inside. I suppose there is always a first!
The oleander is quite a large bush which requires full direct sunlight for most of the day inorder for it to flower. There are dwarf varieties which could be used inside.
If you have small children, I would be very careful as the sap of the plant is highly toxic.
I would recommend that you visit your local nursery and speak to one of the garden staff who will be able to recommend a more appropriate indoor plant.
Reply:Caution, Oleander is very poisonous and should NOT be grown indoors if there is a risk of animals or children ( or adults) chewing the leaves.
Ther wise, they like it bright and hot!
Reply:The oleander plant is highly poisonus..not just the leaves..stalk leaves berries flowers are all toxic to animals and humans..One berry off of a plant can literaly kill a horse...
Centuries later, in the 1633 edition of "The Herbal, or General History of Plants", the author John Gerard says of oleander: "This tree being outwardly applied, as Galen saith, hath a digesting faculty; but if it be inwardly taken it is deadly and poisonsome, not only to men, but also to most kinds of beasts. The flowers and leaves kill dogs, asses, mules, and very many of other four footed beasts: but if men drink them in wine they are a remedy against the bitings of Serpents, and the rather if Rue be added. The weaker sort of cattle, as sheep and goats, if they drink the water wherein the leaves have been steeped, are sure to die." which indicates knowledge that the raw plant is poisonous, but that extracts of the plant were used medicinally. An oleander extract much like the home remedy known as "oleander soup" is most likely the magic healing potion that led to the witchcraft accusation against Rebecca, the beautiful Jewish woman from the Holy Land, in Sir Walter Scott's "Ivanhoe".

White Oleander morals? Life lessons?
Just curious
White Oleander morals? Life lessons?
I wouldn't say life lessons. But the book certainly brought up a wide range of societal issues and how they impact american youth. Essentially the book chronicales an innocent childs emotional turmoil as she experiences the very worst american society has to offer (muder, sexual molestation, violence, abuse, starvation, poverty etc) She has these experiences while in foster care - a system that is fundamentally flawed and has short-changed America's oprhans. The books purpose is to highlight a growing societal problem through the eyes of one of it's victims.
Reply:Well I thought it was sad, and in some parts depressing but I can't say I got any life lessons out of it. It wasn't a bad read tho.

Are Oleander plants really dangerous to have in a garden with pets?
They are deadly for pets as well as humans
Are Oleander plants really dangerous to have in a garden with pets?
Depends upon the pet. We have cats and they never chew on the leaves, but I'd be very wary of having oleanders around any animal that eats primarily plant matter, for example, horses, goats, llamas, etc.
Reply:WARNING
Oleander is extremely poisonous. Eating even small amounts of any part of the plant can kill. Children have been poisoned by using the twigs as whistles. Contact with skin may cause irritation. Smoke from burning cuttings can cause severe reactions.
Reply:Yes. Depends on the pet a bit. If it is a habitual plant eater it may get very sick or even die.
Reply:When we came to Spain two cats adopted us. We had no Oleander then. Now (4 years later) we have hundereds of Oleander plants. The cats are still here and very healthy.

I just finished reading the book and watching the movie, I personly thought that the movie did not give the book justice. They took out one of Astrids main foster mothers and also Olivia. They did not really get into her mother killing Barry. But most of all they changed the end! Please tell me what you think of both the book and the movie.
White Oleander?
I saw the movie first and read the book second; I thought the movie was great! The movie captured the emotions the book couldn't quite convey, and the book explained a bit more about the movie. A lot of the scenes included more interaction and emotional dialogue and you can clearly see where it leads to, and the book didn't have that. I believe they cut out the foster parent and Olivia because it would've added an element of racial tension, something that could've brought the movie an R-rating and cut down it's audience. They showed the mother and all of her irrationality, and that was more than enough to enlighten the viewer on why Barry may have been killed. I didn't think the ending was changed too much; it still kept with the theme and didn't give Astrid a false ending.
Reply:that movie sucked hard. the book is always better than the movie. remember that. bki
Reply:SHHHHHHH!!! Don't say another word. I am just starting the book and I haven't seen the movie.
Reply:Never read the book, saw the movie. I thought it to be quite disturbing.
Reply:I agree. The book was so good because it was gritty! Astrid sleeping with the husband of the first foster mom (and Cole Hauser in the movie was too young for that part, by the way! I pictured the character as more Billy Bob Thornton); her drug use, her friendship with the prostitute, the dog attack and, didn't they leave out two foster moms? That or they just glossed over one. I dont' remember. Anyway, the movie was just way to watered down to do the book justice, although I felt the actresses (especially Michelle Pfiefer) were very good.
Reply:It has been a long time since I read the book or saw the movie, but I do remember being really disappointed in the movie version. But I always am. Movies never ever do the book version justice. I don't even know why I bother. I much prefer books over tv/movies.
Reply:I agree. I loved the book and was excited to see the movie. But as usual, the movie was a let down in comparison.
Reply:I loved the book very disappointed in the movie
Reply:It's been a while since I watched the movie and even longer since I've read the book. However, I remember being very disappointed about a lot of material being left out of the film. I also never pictured Renee Zellwegger while I was reading the book.
Reply:I liked the book so much I did not want to watch the movie. They usually ruin movies, they give it a Hollywood style ending. Its rare the movie is better or just as good as the book don't you think?

Is oleander poisonous for chickens?
Oleandor is extremely poisonous. One leaf can kill a small child and a lot of chickens. With that said a lot people have this plant in their garden without incident. If the tree is valuable to you I would fence it off - why take the chance?
Is oleander poisonous for chickens?
Oleander is poisonous in leaves, stem, and flower. Assess how your chickens are encountering oleander, Are they perching on wood? Chickens don't chew wood, so that should be safe. Eating leaves, buds, or flowers--not safe. So, if your chickens are wandering among oleander bushes, and pecking at oleander buds, they will be poisoned.

White Oleander, book vs the movie?
i've read the book, and it was probably one of the best i've ever read, although i'm not normally a huge book person.
i hate it how movies ruin your own personal concept of the book and how you saw things, so i'm skeptical of seeing the movie. anyone seen and read it?
White Oleander, book vs the movie?
I saw the movie first, and it was very well acted. Michelle Pfieffer (sp?) was chillingly cold-blooded as the mother. The movie leaves out one of the daughter's foster placements, next to the prostitute. It also doesn't go into detail about the man or the method of his death.
The movie inspired me to read the book, and I'm not a big fiction reader, either. The book was so well written, and the author's repeating phrases were mesmerizing, drawing me in.
If you read the book and loved it, you'll enjoy the movie, because the actresses played in strength and weakness so well.

My wife loved it.
"Deranged by rejection, Ingrid murders the man, and is sentenced to life in prison. White Oleander is the unforgettable story of Astrid's journey through a series of foster homes and her efforts to find a place for herself in impossible circumstances. Each home is its own universe, with a new set of laws and lessons to be learned. With determination and humor, Astrid confronts the challenges of loneliness and poverty, and strives to learn who a motherless child in an indifferent world can become. Tough, irrepressible, funny, and warm, Astrid is one of the most indelible characters in recent fiction."
Reply:It was disturbing, in my opinion, to see how a mother could be nutty enough to do what she did, and leave her child.
I thought the true story "Blackbird" by Jennifer Lauck was much better.
Reply:the book does have sex in it. but even though it does it is an extremely good book. You learn a lot from it by the way the girl realizes who she is and how to deal with her mother in jail. she goes from foster home to foster home. you see how the world is this terrible place but some times it has small places of joy. i would recommend it to you. it also has some cussing but it's hard to find good books that don't ya know? well i hope you try it.
Reply:I think there might be a little bit about sex in there...It's about a girl whose mother kills someone and she has to go stay with foster parents. I really liked the book, it's far better than the movie. I suggest picking it up if you're not against a little bit of sex.

Oleander freeze burn leaves?
Can I prune back my 3 feet tall orleander? I planted two outside in the ground last fall, and now after this winter the leaves are all dead and drooping. Can they be saved? I live in zone 8.
Oleander freeze burn leaves?
Absolutely oleander can be cut back, but don't do so until the new growth starts coming out. Some of the branches with dead leaves may still be alive and may put on new leaves in the spring. (Soon in your area.) I know it's messy to look at now, but waiting will insure that you cut out only the dead branches.
Reply:Yes, they will recover. If it were me, I'd wait until spring to see what is alive and doing well.
By the way, in one of the neighborhoods near us a neighbor cuts theirs 1/2 down EVERY year and the plants are bushy and beautiful. Loaded with flowers. I love driving down that street each summer just to see the oleander.

how do i trim the oleanders down
What do i use to chop oleander out of control down?
You can either trim like a hedge, or just remove some of the older stems at the base of the plant. Don't remove more than
1/3 of the growth at any one time.

Do dogs know not to eat oleander plants?
We put some in our yard and I know they are poisonous. A lot of people have them and I never hear of pets eating them, but my dog eats strange things sometimes. Has anyone ever seen dogs chew on oleanders or do they just stay away?
Do dogs know not to eat oleander plants?
Dogs have no idea if something is poison or not.If it smells good, tastes good,or if they are bored, they might eat away.If they knew what was poison, they wouldn't drink antifreeze, eat rat poison,or any of the other things that so many pets die from ingesting every year.
Reply:No, unfortunately not. Dogs sometimes eat grass coz they cannot digest it, so it helps them get rid of accumulated stuff in their GI tract. But they cannot really distinguish. Be careful!
Reply:How would they "know"? They're dogs, they don't know anything.
Reply:Umm its a dog. It doesnt know whats right from wrong when eating anything.
Do dogs know not to eat oleander plants?

Reactions to this plant are as follows. Ingestion can cause both gastrointestinal and cardiac effects. The gastrointestinal effects can consist of nausea and vomiting, excess salivation, abdominal pain, diarrhea that may or may not contain blood, and especially in horses, colic (Inchem 2005). Cardiac reactions consist of irregular heart rate, sometimes characterized by a racing heart at first that then slows to below normal further along in the reaction. The heart may also beat erratically with no sign of a specific rhythm. Extremities may become pale and cold due to poor or irregular circulation (Goetz 1998). Reactions to poisonings from this plant can also affect the central nervous system. These symptoms can include drowsiness, tremors or shaking of the muscles, seizures, collapse, and even coma that can lead to death (Goetz 1998). Oleander sap can cause skin irritations, severe eye inflammation and irritation, and allergy reactions characterized by dermatitis (Goetz 1998).

Reply:It is poisonous, but it may not be effecting you because you didn't eat enough of it. Most poisonings are based on body size (very much like getting drunk). The bigger you are, the more it will take to poison you.
Reply:Seek medical attention ASAP afterwords seek psychiatric help.
Reply:I know you're not supposed to touch Oleander cuttings because they will irritate your skin and if you burn Oleander clippings they give off noxious gases so I have to guess that eating Oleander is not a good thing.
I'm thinking maybe what you ate isn't Oleander. You wouldn't be here talking about it if it were.
Reply:leaves and stems have less trace of the poison--the flowers are poisonous in large quantities, it dont taste good actually why bother eating, like all member of apocynaceae family its flowers are poisonous, see why these plants have less pest,--- but aphids like it,,,, so dont you worry next time dont try it it may have late effect on you,, he he,, the smoke produce from dried leaves and twig have bad raections to other people,, beware
Reply:Why on earth would you eat oleander?? I agree w/the first poster--seek medical attention!
Reply:It couldn't be a real Oleander, because you would be very sick by now.But I wouldn't take any chances. Watch your health.
Reply:Anytime you are not sure if something is poisonous, always call poison control in your area. It is usually on the inside cover of your phone book. Better safe than sorry.
I'm trying to picture you eating the sap "for a long time".????

How big can an oleander be when u plant it?
my landscaper has planted what i feel are very small - 15 gallon oleanders. and i want something that is much larger
How big can an oleander be when u plant it?
Five gallon size oleanders are appropriate. They are young enough not to be root bound and will flourish once in the ground.
Here in Florida, they can be 6 feet tall a year after they are planted if they get enough food and water. A year after that, you will need to prune them, I promise.
Reply:Be patient. It will grow fast.

Have oleanders named Nerium oleander 'Sunrise'. can someone tell me the color the blossoms will be?
This may be a newer cultivar (there are about 400 or so) and hasn't been around long as I can't find it easily online. Given the name 'sunrise' and looking at that name in other plants, I'd say yellow/orange coloration. You do know that all parts of the oleander, both green and dried, are toxic right?

they turned out to be pink Report It

Getting rid of Oleander Plant?
I have 2 oleanders in my back yard that I want to get rid of. My dogs try to eat the leaves and the plant is really messy! I've tried cutting it down, but it just grows back. It's an established plant and the roots go far underground.
Any advice on how to kill it completely?
Getting rid of Oleander Plant?
Another thing you can do.....after you cut them near the ground, make a hole in the trunk and pour RoundUp in the hole. You might have to do this more than once. RoundUp goes down the stem and into the roots to kill the whole plant.
You can also use RoundUp on weeds and etc. It goes into the leaves, down the stem, and into the roots.
If you have something to get rid of and it is near a good plant, use a narrow paint brush to "paint" RoundUp onto the leaves.
Reply:This has poisonous everthing ! especially din't burn it as the smoke will be poison too. Hammer real copper nails or bolts into the trunk %26amp; it will slowly die.

Oleander-prune-Northern Cal-When?
I live in USDA weather zone 8b-9a (san Francisco northern bay area).
I have many large, mature Oleanders that are important as screening on my property and I want to care for them properly!
Different sources say Pruning should be done around February OTHERS say October.
I would prefer October while the soil is dry (not as slippery, muddy, etc) but am fearful that any winter freezes would harm new buds. I am NOT concered with flowering.
Thanks, Frank
Oleander-prune-Northern Cal-When?
Hi Frank, they should be done after flowering, so in fall is the best time. If you do get frosts that do damage then trim off the damaged wood in the spring, after they've started into growth, April/May, and they'll be OK. If the are large and have been in situ for a decent length of time it'll take a lot to do them much damage.
Reply:I live in Louisiana and if I were going to prune my oleanders, it would be in the late fall, after they've bloomed. Be careful, as you may know, all parts of the Oleander are extremely poisonous. Never burn the trimmings either. Smoke becomes toxic and can irritate lungs.

Could a person get sick or die from eating tomatoes from a plant among or near Oleander bushes?
Or what if someone smoked pot from a plant growing among Oleander?
Could a person get sick or die from eating tomatoes from a plant among or near Oleander bushes?
Be careful. One never knows how cross-contamination could occur. Example: a gardener without garden gloves handling the oleander plant and then picking tomatoes could accidentally spread oleander sap on the tomatoes.
Aphids as the carriers of poison? Even oleander aphids? A possibility.
A sick oleander plant my leak sap too on the tomatoes still on the vine.
Cross-poisoning may not be well known concerning this plant because no one has written about it yet.
Smoking pot grown by oleander bushes? Hopefully no dried oleander leaves got mixed in with the pot. Pot can be contaminated by other chemicals. Why not those toxins from the oleander plant? (Dried oleander parts are poisoness and smoke from burning oleander is also poisoness.)
A website: http://www.oleander.org/toxic.html
Your question reminded me of a dear friend who grew oleander plants very successfully.
Reply:you totally lost me
Reply:that depends entirely upon which planet you reside on! In some instances the oleander might enhance the pots great effect. Perhaps some experimentation along these lines might lead to great discoveries.Start w/ tomatoes first.
Reply:I can not find one reference from indirect oleander poisoning. The toxins are in only the leaf. I do not see any way it could contaminate near by plants through the soil.
Reply:I think you have already been hitting the wacky weed already.
